Shirodhara, or the Royal Treatment, and Abhyanga

“Shiro” means “head” and “dhara” means “flow” or “stream.” This treatment involves applying a thin stream of warm oil to the forehead, first focusing on the third eye and then moving in slow, oscillating motions across the forehead. It is performed after an abhyanga.

  • Psychiatric disorders, autism
  • Children through the end of adolescence
  • First trimester of pregnancy
  • Excess phlegm, lymphatic types (excess Kapha)
  • In case of a cold or sinusitis (risk of worsening)
  • During your period or if you have indigestion
